The process of the work starts with converting the stokes of Chinese characters to codes of “0” and “1”s, then a software 3ds Max transfers the converted code to a three-dimensional model. It is a unique sequence of the “0” and “1”s that therefore models are direct and objective translation of the strokes, making it into forms without individual subjectivity. The ‘writing’ and ‘creating characters’ are based on the combined models that form the meanings and concepts of words and sentences. The ‘words’ in the space then creates other meanings and expressions beyond itself. ( For this series, I translate Chinese character strokes into binary code and use this code to control a 3D software to produce 3D models. Using these models, I form sculptures, which are direct and objective representations of the strokes. These sculptures become coded Chinese characters, which are assembled in a space to create other meanings and expressions beyond the character’s meaning itself. There are 32 different Chinese character strokes, meaning there are 32 different components that can make up the sculptures. For example, the character for ‘light’ has six strokes and so there will be six parts to the sculpture.)
