Liquid Moon, Automobiles in the Wall, and Everything Else in Between
液体的月亮,长在墙上的汽车,以及介于两者之间的其他一切
Introduction
Zhang GaOCAT is rearranged through strange partitions, clearings and uncanny objects. Humidity, airborne particles, visitors and microorganisms derived from the artist’s cells all participate in the scene, making perceptually invisible things manifest.
This is a machine-conceived situation without a linear plot: liquid moon, automobiles in the wall, clay, fungi and writhing light tubes amalgamate, entangle, leak and aggregate. The machine no longer performs a human dream; it stipulates a human scenario.

Hundreds of light tubes squirm, twitch, avoid and attempt to coalesce in a machinic dance that is not an anthropomorphic ritual.

A machinic logic slices the wall into a narrow passage and lodges two cars near the ceiling, rearranging the human scale of circulation.

An AI emulates the artist’s form from biometric data; climate, temperature and microbes continue to shape the clay body and may return it to dust.

Microorganisms and biomass from the artist’s body form a fluorescent blue moon, turning the body’s interior into a luminous celestial object.
Biosynthetic microbes and microbes; 2.5 m acrylic sphere
An artificial skylight simulates daylight and changes intensity according to mapped online locations; visible light is mortal while the unseen is imagined as immortal.

Synthetic biological culture produces an intense blue, making microorganisms both pigment and subject.

The dictionary definition of “fungus” is translated into DNA base pairs and inserted into a eukaryote, allowing language, nature and artifice to reproduce as a hybrid third nature.
