Exhibition premise
Exhibition dossierThe title comes from the closing passage of Henry Miller’s Black Spring and points to a moment of stepping outside fixed identity to reconsider “that which I am.” Across three floors, boundaries between subject and object, living and inanimate, artist and tool repeatedly exchange places.
The exhibition brought together a decade of installation, painting and video, while new works such as WANG Yuyang# partially delegated authorship to software, turning the machine from medium into an “artist” capable of selection and generation.

The work dismantles and recomposes the images, structure and meanings of The Moon Landing Program; images of objects gradually disappear, leaving judgment to emptiness.
Televisions, air conditioners, bricks and other manufactured things are given breath so they are no longer merely objects of use.
A hand-drawn curve is encoded as a visual sequence legible to a brain-computer interface, guiding the viewer’s brainwave toward the curve’s waveform.
Chinese character strokes become binary sequences and three-dimensional models, shifting writing from semantics to combinable sculptural form.
A program reads databases and online information, then generates paintings, sculptures, performances, sound or text according to art-historical and artist-derived logics.
